Maximizing the skills of their 3D generalists, Radial 3D is able to quickly and efficiently adapt when production schedules change. Specifically, while reviewing the shots on an episode of “Animal Armageddon” for Animal Planet, Radical 3D realized there was an abundance of effects shots that needed to be started. With numerous 3D generalists on the crew all artists’, character and modelers, alike began working on effects shots to meet the delivery deadline.
“When most people think of animation generalist they think of jack of all trades, but my guys are really king of all trades,” explains Jason McKinley, Owner Radical 3D. “They jump from character to lighting to environment and effects delivering world class animations every step of the way.”
Few studios have the ability to utilize their 3D artists in multiple positions. For example, many studios force their animators to become specialists. These artists focus their skills on one aspect of the animation process such as lighting, texturing or modeling. Larger facilities further limit artists’ abilities with specialties of such as organic modeling and architectural modeling.
“We’re proud to allow our artists to work in their preferred specialty while keeping them current on all aspects of CGI,” McKinley adds.
Radical 3D is in production on "Animal Armageddon" a full CGI series that explores ancient earth and the catastrophes that led to mass extinctions of across the globe. The program airs Thursday nights on Animal Planet.
